Here are Brian and James' favorite places to eat and have fun in in Bozeman.

For nostalgia factor, an asterisk indicates an old college haunt of Brian's, which has been around since his MSU days ('02-07).

For breakfast, Nova Cafe on Main Street offers fantastic fare (try the griddle cakes) in a quiet, quaint atmosphere with booths and tables. Great for groups of 2-6.

For lunch, hit up Bozeman's version of "Whole Foods," with groceries great prepared food and salad bar options. The full store is a few blocks up Main Street and a smaller branch downtown. Great to eat in or grab-and-go.

For dinner, Blackbird is our favorite! Reservations usually required, but great food - from pizza to other organic, wood-fired options, with stunning wines to match, giving it a casual, yet intimate, foodie vibe. Great for groups of 2-6.

For dinner, Montana Ale Works sits at the east end of Main Street in a renovated, 8000 sq. ft. railroad warehouse. building has seen a century of action. Upscale comfort food, great beer, and space to accommodate groups up to 30.

This easy trail (1.4 miles round-trip, apprx 30-60 min) is just south of Bozeman, following a tributary to a bridge fronting the falls - a towering cataract dropping more than 80 feet off a vertical rock wall at the southern base of Palisade Mountain. The trail is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, mostly paved, with picnic tables at the trailhead.

About an hour outside Bozeman, Chico Hot Springs, Resort, and Day Spa is historical and epic. Est. in 1900 and currently on the National Historic Register, Chico offers quaint lodging, fine dining, a historic saloon, full day spa, natural hot springs pool, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, river rafting . . . and is just by the entrance to Yellowstone National Park!

For breakfast, JAM on Main Street is loud, fun, and serves up yummy food (try the eggs Benedict) and boozy brunch options. Great for groups of 2-10.

For lunch or dinner, Mackenzie on Main Street offers a casual, rustic atmosphere with local beers and gourmet pizzas on a variety of crusts – sourdough, natural grain, thick and thin. Great for groups of 2-10, or more at separate tables.

For whiskey aficionados, Copper's sleek, underground setting offers 225 whiskies, scratch cocktails, and a Montana inspired dinner menu. Lots of room for groups of 2-15+.

A childhood and college favorite of Brian, MSU's museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate, recognized as one of the world's finest research and history museums, renowned for displaying an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils, including a T. rex skeleton!

This easy or moderate trail (30 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on which trail you choose) is just out of town at the mouth of Bridger Canyon, a  landmark “M” created by MSU students in 1915, with epic views of Bozeman and the Gallatin Valley.

The Montana Angler is a family run business famed for their fun fly fishing day trips. Visitors can choose from excursions to one of Montana’s 20 rivers or many other private waters, spring creeks and lakes. You can choose if you want to float fish, wade or blend riding and fishing.

For breakfast, Cateye Cafe just off Main Street is funky, funny, hipster catnip with a quirky vibe and awesome food. Try the cowgirl French toast. Great for groups of 2-4.

For lunch or breakfast, try Feed Cafe Feed cafe's breads or pastries (gluten free available), all organic and local. Comfy, farm-chic, including picnic on the lawn option (they provide the picnic blankets!)

For wine, PLONK on Main Street is the hippest wine bar in town, with amazing bottles for all budgets, and legit cheese and chocolate boards. Great for a before- or after-dinner drink, groups of 2-15.

This ranch and home supply store is a really fun experience. They sell everything from baby chicks, to bees, to feed, tractors, firearms, to rhinestone jeans and cowboy boots! 

Murdoch's

Just outside of town (and closer than Chico), this clean, well-managed hot springs (well-managed by Seventh Day Adventist Family, so no questionable behaviors or substances allowed) has 12 different pools with temperatures ranging from 59 to 106 degrees and both dry and wet saunas, with new rock-rimmed outdoor pools! Also live music on the outdoor stage every Thursday and Sunday at 7:00 PM!

Yellowstone is only a couple hours away. You can always rent a car and just explore . . . but if you're looking for a real customized adventure, Yellowstone Safari Company will guide you on everything from day-long safaris, bear, wolf or bison sightings, llama treks, river tours, or more!
